Kinhin (Zen Walking)

"Traditional Zen walking meditation practiced between periods of sitting zazen, coordinating slow rhythmic stepping with breath."

Understanding Kinhin (Zen Walking)

In Soto and Rinzai Zen monasteries, Kinhin is performed with hands held in the Shashu mudra against the solar plexus. Each half-step unfolds in synchrony with a full breath cycle (inhale and exhale). It trains unbroken presence in physical motion, preventing lethargy, anchoring the lower body in the earth, and transforming kinetic energy into quiet dignity.

Spiritual Significance

In the Numinous path, Kinhin (Zen Walking) represents a key pillar for bridging the gap between physical reality and the subtle energies of consciousness.
